About Legendary Person - Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (JRD Tata)

 


  • JRD Tata joined Tata Sons company  as an unpaid Apprentice in 1925 & became Chairman when he was 34 in 1938. He expanded the Group from 14 companies to 95 under the Tata Group by the time of his retirement in the year 1988.
  • He founded several industries under Tata Group including TCS, Titan, Air India, Voltas, Tata Salt, Tata Motors.
  • He founded the Tata Airlines which later became Air India in 1946. He established Air India International as First International Airline in 1948.
  • JRD Tata piloted the first ever flight in the History of Indian Aviation.
  • He is first and only industrialist to receive Bharat Ratna.
  • Out of 153 years of Tata Group, JRD Tata has served as a chaiman for 53 years alone.
  • Under his chairmanship, the assets of Tata Group grew from $100Mn  to $ 5Bn till 1988

India's first banking merger

 Tata Industrial Bank - Central Bank of India

  •  Tata Industrial Bank Limited is a Public incorporated on 11 December 1917. 
  • But later it ran into trouble.
  • Amalgamated with Central Bank of India in the year 1923.
  • It was one of the first merger in India's banking history.
